What do we wear?

Co-ordinated colours look great but don’t be too matchy (i.e. everyone wearing blue jeans and white t-shirts). Try earthy or soft tones such as cream, off white, tan, beige, grey, blue, olive or pastels. Select 3-6 colours to work with that complement the whole family. Neutral, colours or block colours look great but preferably no bold logos on t-shirts as they can distract and stand out in photos. Plain colours are best with either jeans or plain coloured pants. Flowy neutral dresses on Mum can photograph beautifully too.

Natural textures such as wool, lace, linen or denim photograph beautifully. If your child has a favourite blankie or teddy lets include them as well as it says so much about who they were at this time of their life.

Try to leave your watches and elastic wrist bands at home as these can be distracting in photos.

WHAT TIME OF THE DAY IS BEST FOR A FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT?

Soft light is more flattering for portrait photography. I usually like to schedule outdoor family shoots either in the early morning or late afternoon (Golden Hour) as the light isn’t too bright or harsh (this can cause shadows on your faces).

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD ISN’T CO-OPERATING?

My style of photography is natural, letting all the perfect and imperfect moments happen organically. Trying to produce those forced smiles and posed family photos can be very stressful. I try to take the emphasis off the camera as once we force a child to pose this will bring on ‘cheesy’ smiles, so I let them play, run, explore, make it an adventure where they are having fun with their parents. Let them think that it’s a fun day out with their parents, not a photo shoot.

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?

I only reschedule shoots if it’s raining. Overcast weather is great as it’s flat or even lighting that doesn’t produce shadows on faces.

CAN YOU SUGGEST A LOCATION?

I can either visit your home or we can go to a favourite location that your family loves to visit. I also have a variety of locations that I can suggest around Melbourne.

Other questions

HOW DO I PAY?

You will be invoiced for a deposit to lock in your photo shoot date and time upon receiving your booking. Package prices include Session Fee and GST so there will be no additional costs. Final payment goes by the number of images you choose (“Seed” Package minimum.). You don’t have to stick to the package numbers as you’ll be invoiced for any additional photos on top of the package you’re closest too.

DO YOU SUPPLY DIGITAL FILES?

Yes, all packages include your chosen images in digital format on USB. The ‘Seed’ & ‘Sprout’ packages also include 7 x 5 inch Fine Art prints as I believe that your chosen photos need to be printed. The ‘Grow’ package includes a beautiful 20 page Fine Art Album with linen cover.

CAN YOU ORGANISE OTHER PRINTED PRODUCTS?

Nothing gives me more joy than seeing your cherished photos printed and on display. Photos don’t belong in the Cloud or on a hard drive collecting dust, they need to be seen for you to reminisce your family stories and have heirloom keepsakes to hand down through the generations.

Let’s work together to organise your printing needs. This could mean working out what to frame and where to hang it or designing your fine art album.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE THE PHOTOS?

I envisage to have your proofing gallery to you within 4-7 days as I understand how you can’t wait to see them.

I’d love to hear from you should you have any more questions.
